In soccer, the “upper 90” – the top corner of a goal where the crossbar and end post meet – is an ideal target. A driven ball to this spot will almost certainly score because even the best goalkeepers usually can’t reach this high, distant corner soon enough.

upper 90 is also a business metaphor for the top right quadrant in most 2x2 diagrams – the optimal sector where a company, product or person wants to be positioned. The upper right corner, where the vertical and horizontal axes meet, represents performance perfection.

To get to the upper 90 in soccer and business, you need:
  • Information – data to create awareness and understanding
  • Preparation – practice to enhance skills and form good habits
  • Execution – consistently strong performance against high standards
  • Drive – energy to overcome challenges and achieve goals
  • Confidence – self-esteem created by doing your best.

Those same factors apply to our business. We help communications professionals understand their strengths and development areas. We provide resources and training for managers and leaders to develop new skills. We help communications teams define and pursue higher standards for performance. We guide and motivate communicators to reach new goals. And we build belief in individuals and teams that translates into confident performance.
